I experience artmaking as a process of intuitive visual research. My work can be thought of as a threshold between interior and exterior spaces, sustaining contemplation over time. The materials I use, such as mdf (fiberboard) and handmade paper, serve as the starting point for my investigations; my vocabulary is derived from the innate properties the materials, and from my observation and contemplation of natural processes and forms. Dynamic dichotomies drive my work, whether the intersection of the organic and the geometric, implied versus material space, fluid versus ruled marks, or simultaneously occurring spatial depictions. My work arises from my understanding of space, matter, and human beings as multidimensional, multifaceted and interconnected; that understanding has been formed by sources ranging from ancient philosophies to contemporary scienctific knowledge. The techniques I have developed demand my complete focus and concentration combined with deep knowledge of the material; I must be fully present at each step for there is rarely the possibility of correction. While my work shares the reductive aesthetic of minimalism, unlike minimalist work it embraces the irreproducible.
